Robert Maris practices in the areas of business and commercial law and litigation, involving mortgage lending, creditor-debtor relations, general business matters, breach of contract, construction and real estate disputes.
Representing businesses and individuals throughout Texas, Mr. Maris handles a broad scope of state and federal litigation, appeals including matters before the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Maris has comprehensive knowledge of the courts and judges in Northern Texas, derived from more than three decades of practice in federal and state courts. He also has extensive first chair trial experience in many civil courts in the Dallas, Fort Worth, Denton and McKinney areas.
Robert’s philosophy is to find practical solutions to legal problems. While vigorously advocating his clients’ interests in all litigation, he first seeks alternative means to resolve civil and commercial disputes in his client’s favor, such as arbitration, contract negotiations, renegotiations, work-out arrangements and mediation before going to trial.
Where litigation and trial cannot be avoided, Robert works with clients along with firm associates to prepare winning cases by thorough investigation and discovery. He emphasizes efficient and careful case development, which avoids unnecessary costs and disruption to the client’s ongoing business activities.
Mr. Maris believes that any case worth trying is worth trying well, which his trial record demonstrates.
Previous Work
Prior to forming Maris & Lanier, P.C. in 1996, Mr. Maris practiced with other major Dallas law firms for 20 years. He worked for the Dallas/San Antonio/Houston firm of Glast, Phillips & Murray, P.C., formerly Glast & Miller, P.C., and the Dallas/Houston law firm of Maxwell, Godwin & Carlton, P.C., now Godwin, Pappas, Langley, Ronquillo, P.C.
