Marigny Lanier practices in the areas of employer-employee relations counseling, employment litigation, civil rights litigation, employment law, harassment prevention training and civil service proceedings.

Client Work

As an employment law advisor, Ms. Lanier’s goal is claim avoidance and successful employer-employee relations. From the perspective of 30 years of trial experience, she coaches employers and governmental entities on “best practices” to avoid complicated and disruptive claims. She provides practical and legally accurate advice on discipline, termination, wage-hour compliance, family and medical leave benefits, unemployment compensation matters and other issues. At employer request, she prepares written employee policies or conducts compliance reviews of existing policies for legal sufficiency.

Acting as an outside consultant, Marigny conducts workplace investigations of employee grievances and harassment complaints and makes findings and recommendations for resolution. She represents municipal police departments and advises civil service commissions in connection civil service proceedings such as appeals of indefinite suspensions and police disciplinary actions.

Marigny Lanier has served as trial counsel in over 100 lawsuits and claims before federal and state courts and before administrative agencies, such as the EEOC and Texas Workforce Commission-Civil Rights Division and Civil Service Commissions. Her trial strategies emphasize the use of summary judgment proceedings or mediation for early and cost-effective resolution of claims.
